Who says there's no justice in the world?
Designing Women, the sassy Dixie Carter-Annie Potts sitcom that CBS, in all its wisdom, put on the shelf Jan. 1, is returning to the network lineup Feb. 1 with a one-hour special.
Women drew wide praise and impressive numbers on Monday nights, but became cannon fodder for NBC's blockbuster comedy lineup when it was suddenly sentenced to Thursdays. After four episodes in that death slot -- a total of 11 have been aired -- the network pulled the plug. Temporarily, it said.
Fans of the show deluged CBS Entertainment chief Bud Grant with hundreds of letters urging him to return Women to Mondays. Instead, he decided to revamp the network's already-successful Sunday-night lineup.
On Feb. 1, Women will air from 9-10pm, followed by the premiere of Hard Copy, the Michael Murphy series about several cynical -- is there any other kind? -- crime reporters. The following week at the same time, Women returns to its regular half-hour status. The born again Together We Stand, minus Elliott Gould, returns at 9:30.
The final broadcast of the 9-11pm CBS Sunday Night Movie will be this coming Sunday.
