Linda Bloodworth's Claudia Foundation Hosts Dixie Carter Event

A lavish holiday display unlike anything seen in Southeast Missouri will be open to the public Nov. 25 through Dec. 22 at the Bloodworth House in Poplar Bluff.

Television producer, screenwriter and author Linda Bloodworth Thomason has employed a noted Hollywood set designer to transform the English Baroque-style home into the first annual Holiday House -- a wonderland complete with more than two dozen designer Christmas trees, hundreds of yards of garlands, a miniature village display for children, live entertainment and more. Theme for the display is "I’ll Be Home For Christmas."

Stage and screen actress Dixie Carter, who played Julia Sugarbaker on Bloodworth Thomason's Designing Women television series, will provide one of the brightest highlights of the holiday celebration when she gives a one-night show on Dec. 3 at the TRCC’s Tinnin Fine Arts Center. Carter's Christmas Cabaret show will include holiday music, as well as some of the numbers she performs each year at the Carlyle Hotel in New York City.

Those who purchase tickets for the entire Dixie Carter evening also will be treated to a pre-performance champagne supper hosted by Linda Bloodworth Thomason and her husband, director Harry Thomason. To purchase tickets, go to www.claudiafoundation.org or call 1-866-686-3040.

Delta's '1st & Ten' Hits DVD

1st & Ten, the HBO series that almost prevented Delta Burke from starring in Designing Women is about to be released on DVD!

The comedy series stars Delta Burke as a young, sexy divorcee who takes ownership of a rundown football team and has to work with Coach Ernie Denardo (Reid Shelton) to whip the team into shape and win some games! The cast was full of testerone with lots of former NFL stars, including a not-yet-notorious O.J. Simpson. The show lasted until 1990-91, although Burke exited in 1988 after 32 episodes.

After an initial delay, Tango Entertainment's releases of 1st & Ten has finally been scheduled, and Season 1 and Season 2 are both set to be released as seperate sets on January 3, 2006.

In addition, trade magazine Home Media Retailing is reporting in a story by Thomas K. Arnold, that Tango Entertainment has teamed up with Wal-Mart to produce a special 1st & Ten - Complete Collection set with all 80 episodes from the run of the show (1984 - 1990/91), including the years when Playboy playmate Shannon Tweed took over the ownership role when Delta Burke moved on to Designing Women. The set is expected to be released November 15th and is rumored to have a ridiculously low price, but as reported by TVShowsOnDVD.com, due to extreme compression of the episodes onto fewer discs, image quality could be an issue.

The first two seasons featuring Delta -- without the extra image compression -- are available for pre-order at Amazon.com: 1st & 10 Seasons 1 and 1st & 10 Seasons 2.

'Designing Women' DVD Update

After an overwhelming number of emails in the last few hours from our Belled Online subscribers, Sony has waived the white flag and announced tentative plans to release Season One of Designing Women on DVD in early 2006.

Sony even called TVShowsOnDVD.com and asked them to make an announcement!

Representatives for Sony say they've heard you, and have asked to please make the emails stop! If you have already sent an email, thank you. If not, we will leave that to your discretion, but please don't SPAM or mass email as this will lessen the impact we're already having.

Again, this announcement is only tentative, and although we won't be happy until it's official, there is only so much Sony will be able to do about the time frame at this point. No matter how hard we push, it will take several months to get these sets on the shelf -- so please be patient. We will keep you posted if we hear anything official in the coming weeks.
